Films I Saw 2012 #1

This year,I promised myself to track films I saw and books I read more carefully, I think I mentioned that already when I made my Norwegian Wood post. So here it is, Tree of Life is just visually stunning. I like the non linear narrative, it is a very ambitious film, yet the story is humbling. Melancholia made me wonder how I’d be like when the world is about to end. Also, men are really more prone to suicide. Kiefer Sutherland’s character John, took his life by taking pills leaving his wife, son, and sister in law, too weak to face the impending doom. I would like to be calm as Justine when that day comes. Restless, for a movie that has one of the leads die because of a terminal disease, it did not make me feel sad for the one left behind. But I mean it in a good way, the ending is satisfying. At one point all of us lose our first real love. Terri, I thought about how he is really brave and bad ass, because he goes to school in his PJ’s because as he himself said, “it’s comfortable”.
